- The Foundation was established in 1970 as an independent Company Limited by Guarantee to promote medical research at Austin Health.
- The AHMRF is funded through donations and by interest earned on invested funds.
- The AHMRF administers grants provided to research groups at Austin Health from funding bodies such as the National Health and Medical Research Council.
